‘Tuna’ Avocado Tartare
This light, fresh, yet umami dish is a crowd-pleaser, perfect as a starter, and guaranteed to fool your guests into thinking they’re actually eating fish!
Ingredients
- Japanese Style Faux Fish, cut into small cubes
- 1 large avocado, diced
- 2/3 cup cucumber, diced
- 2 teaspoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- 1 teaspoon agave or honey
- 1/4 teaspoon yuzu kosho*
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons cilantro
- 2 tablespoons chives, finely chopped (or sub 1 small shallot)
- 2 tablespoon black and/or white sesame seeds
Instructions
- Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and eat as ceviche or put into ramekins and turn over onto a plate to serve it as a tartare. I added my Immunity Boosting Greens Broth cold which was a great addition, but definitely not necessary. I hope you enjoy it!
Notes
- You can use plain watermelon instead of making the Japanese Style Faux Fish. It’ll be a little more fresh and less umami, but just as tasty!
- If you can’t find yuzu kosho, substitute it with a tablespoon of lemon juice. The combination of lemon juice and lime juice are about as close as you can get to getting that distinctive yuzu flavor.
