This DIY skincare recipe doubles as face cream and after shave. Jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, cacao butter, and shea butter make this cream deeply nourishing. Witch hazel is a natural astringent which soothes the skin and cleans any cuts caused by shaving, while Frankincense and Tea Tree oils work their powerful anti-inflammatory magic.
2 tablespoons witch hazel
2 tablespoons cacao butter
2 tablespoons shea butter
2 tablespoons jojoba oil
1 tablespoon sweet almond oil
1 teaspoon carrot oil
5 drops tea tree essential oil
5 drops frankincense essential oil
5 drops sandalwood essential oil
Melt the cacao butter and shea butter in a clean saucepan on the lowest possible heat. I usually remove the pan from heat before it’s entirely melted and let the residual heat do its work.
Add all ingredients, including the melted cacao and shea butter to a mixing bowl and leave to cool down to room temperature (approx. one hour)
Using a hand mixer with clean whisks, mix together the ingredients until it becomes lighter in color and creamy.
Transfer the cream to a sterilised jar and it’s ready to use. You can keep this cream stored outside of the fridge for up to 6 months.
If you’d rather use different essential oils then you can easily replace the one’s listed in this recipe.
