Candied Furikake Nuts
These Candied Furikake Nuts are oven-roasted with furikake sushi rice seasoning, sambal oelek, and maple syrup making them sweet, slightly spicy, salty, and umami all at once!
Ingredients
- 3 cups cashews, pecans, and almonds
- 2 tablespoons black and white sesame seeds
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon sambal oelek or sriracha
- 1/4 teaspoon salt, more to taste
- 2 tablespoons furikake seasoning
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 175°C
- Combine all ingredients in a bowl, except for the furikake seasoning. Transfer to a parchment paper-lined oven tray and roast for 12 minutes until toasty.
- Put the roasted nuts back into the bowl, adding the furikake seasoning, and mix together until all nuts are coated with little specks of nori!
Notes
- You can use any of the nuts above, in varying quantities, or just choose your favorite of the three! You could also use brazil nuts, macadamia, or walnuts.
- If you don’t have maple syrup you can use honey instead.
- You can substitute the sambal or sriracha with cayenne or chili flakes or omit entirely if you don’t like it spicy.
- I used a homemade furikake seasoning mix, but you can opt for a store-bought one to save time. I’ll be posting the recipe for my own soon!
